West End Road Runners set the pace

By on June 29, 2016

A running club set up just six months ago to serve Glasgow’s West End has already won backing from Scottish Athletics.

West End Road Runners (WERR), based at Woodend Bowling & Lawn Tennis Club, becomes Scotland’s newest accredited running club following approval of its application by the Scottish Athletics board earlier this month.

WERR chairman Graeme Jack says the club is attracting adults of all ages and aspirations, from people who want to complete their first parkrun to more experienced runners who are looking to build speed, endurance or fitness.

He said: “Running is enjoying a golden era in Scotland and we are located in an area that has seen a real surge of interest in the sport. We can offer excellent coaching and support for anyone who wants to get involved.

“WERR has quickly built a reputation as a friendly running club and our base in Jordanhill is central and accessible, so we can enjoy running the streets, canals and parks in the area.

“Great credit goes to our founder members, all of whom have played their part in establishing a club which in future, will make a real contribution to the West End.”
