West End Festival 22 – the party’s started

By on June 2, 2017

This year’s West End Festival gets underway today and runs until June 25 with more than 400 events taking place in 75 venues – many of them free.

Weekend highlights include the Vinicombe Street Community Day and the Woodland Fun Day at the Children’s Wood – both Saturday, June 3 from 12 noon.

And the following day on June 4, Festival Sunday, the Ashton Lane Street Party starts at 12 noon as does the Vinicombe Street Party at Hillhead Bookclub, with the Friends Of Maryhill Park Annual Summer Fair at Maryhill Park on from 2pm.

Terry Neason’s Band are one of the first events to kick off the festival at Cotters tonight, June 2, featuring the Glasgow performer who has forged an international career in music and theatre.

West End Festival chair Liz Scobie said: “We’re thrilled our 22nd festival has been put into full swing with Terry and her band.

“From the Bandstand events to choral and The Big Sunday (free event on June 11 in Kelvingrove Park), BBQs, street and lane parties, comedy, literature and vintage buses, there is almost definitely something for everyone.

“Then there’s The Big Lunch, on Sunday, June 18, when communities across Scotland and indeed the UK will hold lunches to connect with their communities. That’s what we’re all about at WEF – connecting our communities.”
