Woodlands Community Garden’s Big Lunch is on Sunday June 18, 12.30-2.30 pm.

Local people are invited to bring a vegetarian dish – and or cakes – to share for a midsummer feast in beautiful surroundings with the aim of celebrating the diversity of the community with food from around the globe.

Part of the Great Get Together and also part of the West End Festival, this is a free event, though donations are welcomed.

The annual Big Lunch get togethers on Sunday, June 18, are an opportunity for communities not just to organise their own BBQs and picnics – but to get to know each other and build neighbourhood ties.

Now in its ninth year, an idea from the Eden Project, supported by the National Lottery, the Big Lunch is the culmination of The Great Get Together, inspired by the late Jo Cox MP, in celebration of her belief we have more in common with our neighbours.

Join in – put out the bunting and ask your neighbours along on Sunday, June 18, and remind them to bring a dish!

Emily Watts, Eden’s country manager for Scotland added: “What The Big Lunch does is give neighbours a reason to come together. Every year more people join in and more communities benefit from the annual get-together.

“It doesn’t matter if you’re holding a street party, a BBQ, or a picnic in the park – people are the key ingredient. It’s all about connecting people to create stronger communities.”

* Free packs and event resources are available from These include invitations and posters to adapt for communities as well as ideas to help get the ball rolling.

As part of the largest regeneration project in Scotland, Sighthill is undergoing significant building work. While the work is ongoing, the community have been left with little space to come together, to play, to talk and to have a cup of tea. So at last year’s Big Lunch, Sighthill residents celebrated the launch of their first Mobile Community Space. See more here
