Tea time for Gillian Kyle

By on October 8, 2014

Gillian Kyle has created a new range of UK-made ceramics in her most popular Tunnock’s and Scottish Breakfast designs.

The latest range from the Hidden Lane-based gift designer includes fine bone china plates, milk jugs, coffee cups and “a nifty wee thing called a teabag tidy” – timely additions ahead of Christmas that will appeal to Scots, Brits, ex-pats and biscuit-lovers everywhere.

Kyle said: “I decided to add these pieces to the range after being inundated with requests from biscuit-lovers everywhere for a Tunnock’s plate. I just love the contrast between the fun imagery and the classic quality and shapes of the fine bone china crockery. Hopefully they will add a bit of humour and colour to tea-times and coffee-breaks across the country!”

The designer – who saw sales double on her website during the summer due to the Tunnock’s Teacake in the Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony – also celebrates a range of other Scottish and British foods and icons, such as HP sauce and fish suppers in her products.

* Kyle’s designs are stocked by John Lewis, Liberty, Paperchase and Visit Scotland and a number of independent gift shops around the UK. The new ceramic additions are revamped illustrations of best-sellers, the tongue-in-cheek Scottish Breakfast design, featuring a Scottish Plain loaf, Irn-Bru, Scott’s Porrage Oats and a bottle of whisky hiding in the background and her ‘Teacake Wrapper’ design which is a nod to the famous shiny wrapper.
