Miquel Torner de Semir exhibition at Thistle Gallery

By on October 26, 2015

Catalonian artist Miquel Torner de Semir is showing nine paintings in the Thistle Gallery in Park Road – in a time-limited exhibition until November 8.

Torner de Semir’s distinctive works – often in collage and taking influences from Gothic stained glass – are in numerous public collections in Spain including the Museum of the Royal Mint and are highly sought after by art collectors internationally.

Thistle Gallery owner Carol Dunbar said: “It’s both a privilege and a pleasure for our gallery to be exhibiting this prestigious artist’s work in Glasgow.

“His rich, vivid colourful exhibits are dynamic and dramatic and each work is a statement piece in its own right. And we’re grateful to Tracey McNee Fine Art for facilitating the event.”

Bridging the gap between the old and the new, says Dunbar, Torner de Semir uses thick black lines to outline figures as he creates paintings within paintings. His use of vivid, neon colours link these windows to the modern world. With influences from contemporary Picasso, his passion for the historical and the modern is clear.

In 2003 Torner de Semir was honoured with a commission to design a postage stamp to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Spanish Constitution.
