Hillhead misses gift it to Weirs

By on May 23, 2016

Week three of the league campaign saw Hillhead host Weirs on a firm track at Hughenden.

Hillhead batting first posted their highest total of the season, scoring 167 for nine. Pick of the home batsmen were A Ahmed (47) and captain Azhar (31).

Azhar, attempting a big hit, was caught on the long on boundary off the bowling of W Mohammed. Ahmed, attempting a similar shot, missed the ball, giving the Weirs keeper McCaig the first of his hatrick of stumpings.

Weirs bowlers, R Young and W Mohammed, picked up three and four wickets respectively in their tight bowling spells.

In reply, a lacklustre start from Hillhead saw the Weirs openers get off to a flying start, only an injury to opener Akram bringing a change to the crease, with McCaig accumulating runs at ease, particularly with Hillhead missing catching opportunities.

In all, five dropped catches made the difference to the result. McCaig eventually being caught at point off Patel for 76. Despite the tumbling of five Weirs wickets, the south side outfit cruised to a five-wicket victory.
