Derby woes for Hillhead as West clinch it

By on May 10, 2016

Match Day 2 in Division 1 proved to be another difficult one for Hillhead in their short trip to Hamilton Crescent against West of Scotland on Saturday.

Having been relegated from the Premier Division, West were likely to be favourites in this West End derby and proved to do enough to see of the Hughenden outfit.

Hillhead skipper Hassan Azhar won the toss and elected to bat. However with the wickets of Fergus and Ahmed falling without troubling the scorers it was left to Azhar and Kiwi all-rounder Patel to help build an innings.

With too many of the Hillhead batsman simply not being able to cope with the West bowling attack, an apparent uncompetitive total of 103 was set. West bowlers Smith and Farndale claiming 3 wickets each for a miserly 29 and 22 respectively.

Credit to Hillhead as they came out fighting for the second innings. Some determined bowling backed up a relatively tidy fielding display meant that West had to concentrate to earn their victory. Patel bagging 3 wickets for 30 and Khan 2 for 33 saw West lose 6 wickets during their run chase.

Clearly, had Hillhead posted another 40 or so runs, the match may have been a little less comfortable for the West boys. Next week Hillhead host Weirs at Hughenden.
