Christine Bovill’s Piaf – an evening of chanson

By on September 16, 2014

Edinburgh, London, Paris – and now Glasgow, as the ‘mesmerising’ Christine Bovill brings the songs of Edith Piaf to Oran Mor next Tuesday (Sep 23).

This performance will help raise funds for the School Club Zambia to buy the seeds, materials and tools that can generate income and provide young people with an education they would otherwise not have access to.

And of course it’s a fantastic opportunity to hear Bovill’s Piaf, a powerful homage that has received rave reviews as an Edinburgh Festival regular for the past few years. On the occasion of her 2012 gigs in the capital, Charles Dumont – who wrote more than 30 songs for Piaf, including Je Ne Regrette Rien – accompanied her on piano.

He said: “I love her, she is an extremely talented singer with great sensitivity for this material – working with Christine was thrilling.”

Glaswegian Bovill is a former French teacher, who became spellbound by the story of Piaf’s life and work. Catch the magic for yourself at Oran Mor,on Tuesday, September 23 at 7pm (tickets £12 from the bar).
