#BLOW leads local charge for Scottish awards
Finnieston salon BLOW have been named as finalists in three categories for this year’s inaugural Scotland-wide Herald Look Awards – Best Hair Salon (small), Best Start Up and Best Use of Social Media.
From a total of 147 entries, innovative work and creative business models influenced the final selection shortlisted across 18 categories, with The Look Awards supported by Defecto Salons, City of Glasgow College, Colours Agency, Habia and Salon Geek.
Since launching last August Fallon Carberry’s BLOW has grabbed the style headlines – and their “How to Hide your Glitter Roots” campaign went viral with tens of thousands of likes every time the image was shared.
BLOW, 1060 Argyle St in Finnieston, say their aim is to make hairdressing social again, with a bespoke colour and style bar and open door policy and an innovative approach with a bar like set-up where customers are served a refreshing drink or cocktail as they stream the latest fashion shows on their large screen.
And there are other West End salons and specialists competing for honours …
Macs Glasgow, at 5-21 Cressell Lane in Hillhead, have been shortlisted in two categories, Hair Extension Specialist and Beauty Salon of the year (small).
Macs is located at De Courcy’s Arcade, a ‘vintage chic’ hair and beauty salon with boudoir-esque treatment rooms (and where owner Melissa Currie organises a fashion show every year for the Cresswell Lane Street Party).
Other local finalists are Beauty Beehive, 101 St George’s Rd near Charing Cross, for Beauty Salon of the year (small) and their own Ania Kesiak for Nail Technician of the year.
Weaves World, 64 Elderslie St near Finnieston, are up for Hair Extension Specialist and Bon Vivant Hair and Beauty, Firhill Rd near Queen’s Cross, make the Best Start Up category.
Polly & Molly Hairdressing, 39 Chancellor St in Partick, are in for Marketing Campaign of the Year, with One To Watch including West End Wax & Beauty Specialists, 367 Dumbarton Road, also Partick.
The winners will be announced at a glittering awards ceremony on Sunday, May 17 at the Raddison Blu Hotel in Glasgow city centre.
